27 April, 2pm - 4pm
Whether you're a seasoned nature enthusiast or a first-time participant, you’ll have everything you need to take part. All you need is a curiosity for the natural world—no prior knowledge or species ID skills required! We’ll kick off with a quick demo on using the iNaturalist app, then we’ll embark on the challenge. From buzzing invertebrates to soaring birds, we’ll be aiming to observe everything we spot in nature. The event is aimed at adults and older children i.e. those able to use the app on their own device), however anyone is welcome to attend (under 18s need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult)
To make the most of your experience, we recommend downloading the iNaturalist app before you arrive. But don’t worry if you haven’t, we’ll be there to guide you through the recording process and show you how to spot and log wildlife. You can even join in without the app—just bring your enthusiasm and your love for nature!
There is no need to book, just turn up. Chester Zoo Nature Reserve is just a short distance from the main car park. Look out for us at the gates to the reserve at 2pm, and if you’re running late, no problem — just find a zoo staff member on the reserve to join the group!
The first half of the Nature Reserve has hard standing pathways and routes through a small woodland. It's possible to do the activity on these pathways. The majority of the bottom half of the reserve is set to wildflower meadow with grassed paths through them. Got questions or accessibility needs? Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at wildlifeconnections@chesterzoo.org.
